Hare Krishna Welcome

Jayadvaita Swami
On a recent flight from London to New York I read Aruddha Dasi’s new book “Homeschooling Krishna’s Children” -- straight through, cover to cover, because it was too good to put down.
The book is chock-full of Krishna consciousness, common sense, practical advice, and realized understandings earned from successfully homeschooling her two fine devotee sons.
People like me can offer opinions and scriptural citations, but Aruddha  Dasi offers expertise.
Interspersed reflections contributed by her older son Radhika Ramana (Dr. Ravi M. Gupta) further brighten the book.
To the extent that raising children in Krsna consciousness is important, so too is this book.
I wholeheartedly recommend “Homeschooling Krishna’s Children” to all devotee parents with school-age children or younger and in fact to all devotee parents, everyone who guides or advises devotee parents, and everyone else who has anything to do with devotee parents or children -- that is, I recommend the book to all devotees, everywhere.

Rādhānātha Swami

Years ago, I visited a college with two small devotee children. Before my lecture the children sang beautiful prayers. Afterwards, the professor remarked, “I liked your lecture, but what really impresses me is your children.” She then spoke words that I never forgot: “Your Society will be successful to the degree that your children find joy in sincerely imbibing your culture.”

It is our most important responsibility to inspire stable families and empower our children with good character, effective skills, and happiness in loving Kṛṣṇa. For this purpose Śrīla Prabhupāda appealed to us to educate our children while providing an environment where they will be nourished by the joys of pure bhakti.

Aruddhā Devī has dedicated her life to bringing this matchless gift to our children. Wherever she shares her wisdom, lives are transformed. She is an extraordinary devotee with profound academic skills, and beyond that she genuinely cares. The children born from Aruddhā Devī are a testament to her inspired skills. They love Kṛṣṇa and are like jewels of devotional qualities while excelling in their professional careers.

I am overjoyed to see this priceless book being made available. I pray that Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa may forever bless and empower Aruddhā Devī, and that all of you readers may gain the precious benefits of this book.

With gratitude,
Rādhānātha Swami

This book, compiled by Aruddhā Devī Dāsī, provides an enormous treasury to parents. It tells them how to homeschool their children without sacrificing the quality of their children’s academic development, and it maximizes character development, the primary fruit of an effective educational experience. Aruddhā Dāsī’s writing presents a method of homeschooling that is based on Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books and his overall instructions for children’s education. The book is drawn largely from her own experience with homeschooling, but it can easily be adapted according to individual circumstances.

I have personally attended Aruddha devi dasi’s course on home schooling Krsna’s children and consider that it is one of the most important contributions in establishing the social stability and spiritual integrity of ISKCON, which for the most part depends upon the Krsna consciousness of its children. Her course gives both techniques and inspiration for any parent to simultaneously educate and deliver Krsna to their children.

The method taught by Mother Aruddhā is not just a homeschooling system; rather, it provides a complete framework for exciting and thorough Krishna conscious parenting. A few years ago, in the throes of confusion and frustration about the education of our son Nimai (then six years old), we were contemplating going back to India to provide him a strong Krishna conscious education. A month before our scheduled departure we found a newspaper article in the Hindustan Times glorifying the achievements of Mother Aruddhā’s two boys. We decided to visit Boise and found to our surprise a system of education that was innovative, practical, and deeply devotional. We really liked the idea of

basing education on Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books and spiritual principles. What impressed us most was her gentle and loving approach to educating kids, such that they would feel voluntary enthusiasm for studies

while pursuing their individual interests.

We have been homeschooling our son Nimai in the USA following her method since 2005, and it has worked wonders for him. He has not only developed a deep interest in Kṛṣṇa consciousness but also is doing very well academically and in other areas as well. Aruddhā’s method of centering education around Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books really works. Nimai has developed a strong memory, keen skills in logic and argument, and very strong reading and writing skills. This approach has also allowed Nimai to develop and pursue his interests in other areas like music, art, and writing, and to use those in Kṛṣṇa’s service. We would wholeheartedly recommend this book and method to any parents desiring to give a first-class education to their child.

My wife Sundarī Rādhikā and I have full conviction that we made the right choice to homeschool our daughter, Sugopī. Having been able to receive constant association and guidance from Mother Aruddhā,

we started to focus on Sugopī’s spiritual life right from the beginning. We even had a Kṛṣṇa book story tape playing when she took birth. Now she is five years old, and we already see significant spiritual progress in her. From chanting japa to book distribution, she enthusiastically participates in all the spiritual activities a devotee would like to do. And it’s not at all surprising to us that she is ahead of non-homeschooled children in her material education. This is possible for anyone, and it’s never too late to take up this homeschooling process. A wide variety of tested tools and techniques are available in Mother Aruddhā’s homeschooling book to help you begin and succeed in this process.

I recommend that all parents read this book. You will find everything Śrīla Prabhupāda wanted to say about children in one place. Aruddhā teaches you how to apply those teachings in raising your own children.

I am indebted to Mātājī Aruddhā for inspiring us and giving us this invaluable gift in the form of her experience in homeschooling her sons in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. What attracted me most is the fact that she used the authorized Vedic scriptures as the basis. The results speak for themselves. She is a true leader to parents who are seeking the best for their children.

Graduating as an electronics engineer and then being exposed to the academic world in various managerial positions, and eventually as a quality consultant, I felt that the present education system did not address the basic questions of human existence as Srila Prabhupada says. Deep in my heart I knew that if we develop faith in the words of Śrīla Prabhupāda and put his teachings into practice, we will raise well cultured, high caliber children with character. However, I had not seen such education translated into real life before Mātājī Aruddhā. Teaching by example and not just precept, she is now an authority in education. Following in her footsteps I have started homeschooling my two sons

using her methodology and I have within a few months seen a transformation in the performance, behavior, well-being, and attitude of my sons. I will only encourage parents to adopt this methodology with emphasis on the holistic approach as presented by Mātājī Aruddhā. It is our duty as parents to deliver our children from the clutches of māyā and guide them on their way home, back to Godhead.

When information is loaded with practical realization, it has the full potency to touch hearts and facilitate transformation. That’s precisely what happens when the prospective parents swim across this book. Undoubtedly, the book is immensely beneficial not only for those who are planning to homeschool their children, but also to all parents who desire to bring up their child spiritually in a wholesome Kṛṣṇa conscious environment in the Age of Kali. A must-read for the new generation

of devotee parents!

We had seriously started “experimenting” with homeschooling a year back taking sole inspiration from Her Grace Aruddhā Mātājī’s family, who have been a shining example of what wonders homeschooling can do for the child as well as the parents. It’s like a dream unfolding, living the enriching Vaiṣṇava lifestyle Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura mentions in his timeless songs: when I enter my home I feel I am entering Vaikuṇṭha! While there are only a handful of shining live examples within the Indian context, we are sure that if many of the upcoming Kṛṣṇa conscious parents decide to take this up sincerely – especially where the facility of a full-fledged Kṛṣṇa conscious school is not available – it would create a revolution in the coming years within ISKCON communities throughout India and a definite step toward contributing to Śrīla Prabhupāda’s vision of bringing up children in a completely Kṛṣṇa conscious environment.

It is not difficult to understand the problems of current schooling, and we were left with no alternative. We are very much grateful to Aruddhā Mātājī for her motivation and showing us the right direction in terms of our children’s education at home. Mātājī took initiative and started guiding many people by conducting seminars.

This book is full of her experiences in homeschooling while following Prabhupāda’s instructions. Probably there is no point related to homeschooling that is not discussed in this book, and the topics are on-the-ground reality with practical solutions and full conviction in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. This book will help all devotee parents who want to raise their children in a Kṛṣṇa conscious culture whether they want to homeschool or not.

For a devotee family, considering where to start in the service of bringing up children in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is a bewildering and sometimes intimidating challenge, even before children are conceived! It’s a weighty responsibility and a lifetime commitment of parents to offer liberation to their dependents. The question may be asked, “Where do we start?” as we ourselves may also be just beginning and learning at every step. How to be a balanced parent in Kṛṣṇa consciousness? How to best guide our children in a wholesome, sustainable, and natural Kṛṣṇa conscious lifestyle, where they can develop into well-balanced, mature adults, spiritually and materially stable, as per their desire? Is such a holistic parenting choice even an option for families to consider? And if so, could it have been right under our noses the whole time?

In this book Aruddhā Mātājī mercifully shares her great knowledge and realizations in her pioneered development of the Kṛṣṇa conscious homeschool system, offering a wide and flexible range of Kṛṣṇa conscious lifestyle options for parents and children alike to learn and grow from.

Aruddhā Mātājī is empowering families all over the world to deepen their faith in the process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, as it was so lovingly given to us by Śrīla Prabhupāda and in particular through his books.

Aruddhā Mātājī takes the fear out of homeschooling our children and teaches us how to develop a Kṛṣṇa conscious environment where parents and children alike can learn, grow, and benefit.

Her Grace Aruddhā Devī Dāsī has well earned her highly respected position as an authority on homeschooling children in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. As a homeschooling parent, she has successfully trained

and educated her own two sons in both spiritual understanding as well as in academic excellence. Both sons are widely recognized in the devotional community as well as in academic circles as exemplary young men of outstanding character and scholarly erudition.

As a dynamic member of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, Aruddhā Devī Dāsī has selflessly reached out to numerous parents and educators. Through personal association, letters, lectures, and seminars, she has deeply inspired and effectively guided them in homeschooling methods based on Śrīla Prabhupāda’s teachings and a systematic study of his books.

Now in the spirit of the preceptors of Vaiṣṇava philosophy, Aruddhā Devī Dāsī has compiled a book on homeschooling children in Kṛṣṇa consciousness for the benefit of an even broader audience.

All who by good fortune have received guidance from Aruddhā Devī Dāsī, either through personal association, lectures, seminars, or her book Homeschooling Krishna’s Children, will find their faith in the application of Śrīla Prabhupāda’s teachings and books in their personal lives greatly enriched and enhanced.
