Hare Krishna Welcome

Homeschooling is a well-respected and widely practiced educational alternative around the world. In the United States alone, over 2 million children are educated at home by their parents. There are many reasons that parents choose this method of education.

  1. 1. We can convey spiritual values and culture to our children.
  2. 2. Our children can develop strong character through good association of adults and peers.
  3. 3. Our children can avoid the negative influences found in modern schools.
  4. 4. Our children excel academically.
  5. 5. There is more opportunity for children to pursue their interests and develop extracurricular skills.

Many devotee parents are finding that traditional schools do not offer a spiritually nourishing environment for their children, and an increasing number are choosing to give their children a Krishna conscious education at home. Srila Prabhupada writes, "If we train children by developing and encouraging their propensity to love Krishna, then we shall be successful in educating them to the topmost standard."

It was Srila Prabhupada's instruction and ardent desire that devotee children receive their education at a gurukula. Because this is not an option available to many parents, homeschooling can serve as an effective and viable alternative. The parents serve as the natural gurus for the children, and the home becomes the gurukula or ashram.
